A close friend of Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth, he initially painted portraits and landscapes before moving to abstraction in 1932.
One-man exhibitions include the Whitechapel Gallery [1937], Lefevre Gallery [1939], Marlborough Fine Art, Fischer Fine Art, Camden Arts Centre and Drian Gallery.
Public collections include the Tate Gallery, National Museum of Wales and V&A.
A book was published on his work in 1997 by Simon Guthrie.
We held a one-man exhibition of his paintings, 1919 to 1960, in January / February 2010.
