Peter Lanyon
Peter Lanyon paintings
Peter Lanyon [1918-64] was born in St. Ives, Cornwall and became one of the most famous of the St. Ives group of artists. From an early stage he began making reliefs and constructions, initially to help him create paintings, but they eventually developed into works of art in their own right. His work was always influenced by landscape, later viewed from a glider, the cause of his early death. Numerous one-man shows were held during his lifetime, especially at Gimpel Fils Gallery, London, as well as several in New York. A major retrospective exhibition of Peter Lanyon work was held at the Tate Gallery, London in 1968. There are currently 4 books on his work, but more are in progress. Work by Peter Lanyon is included in many public collections including the Tate Gallery [London].
