He studied at the Royal College of Art and represented the UK at the Venice Biennale 3 times including the famous 1952 'Geometry of Fear' exhibition.  He has exhibited at Gimpel Fils, Redfern Gallery and the Fine Art Society. He was elected Royal Academician in 1976. A major retrospective show was held at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in 1994. Public collections include the Tate Gallery and Museum of Modern Art, New York.
There is a book on his sculpture by P. Black [published by Lund Humphries] and a catalogue raisonne of sculpture is expected shortly.
